The Barbary

I’ve eaten at The Barbary a few times now, and it never disappoints. Tucked away in Neal’s yard, this counter only restaurant is the real deal. Let me be really clear here, this place does not fuck around when it comes to breads, dips, and grills. The menu is short, so the temptation is to order everything on it. You would not be disappointed, but they’d have to roll you out of the joint.

Whatever you do here, if you just ordered breads and their dips you’d be happy, the Naan they do is out of this world. In this instance we went for the labneh and hummus. The grills are excellent, their oyster mushrooms in particular were devoured rather quickly. Next up was the 12 spice chicken and smoked labneh octopus. The chicken was perfectly prepared and the octopus was charred to perfection. All of this washed down with a hibiscus lemonade and I was ready to crack on with the day.

The Barbary is worthy of a stop in London, and thankfully now takes reservations. Don’t walk, run here, just to get the bread and dips as you won’t find a place that does it better in London (Maybe Berenjak)
