Yatay Soho

It seems I’m on a Japanese rant right now with all the reviews being from my time in Japan, but with Yatay Soho right in the heart of London, I knew I had to check this place out. All Izakaya’s have a certain charm to them, essentially a chaotic environment with the beer flowing, small eats a plenty, and buzzy atmosphere. Given it’s summer in London, I was looking forward to an ice cold beer in this heat and various skewers. Since it was a small group of friends for dinner, we ended up ordering every skewer on the menu plus some larger plates from the Robata grill.

Stand out skewers include the Stone bass which is miso glazed with sea urchin butter. The feather blade kushiyaki is delicious, a citrus kick with ginger, the meat is incredibly tender and can be pulled apart with just chopsticks. The Lamb T-bone we got from the grill was incredible, I was gnawing on the T-bone by the end of the meal trying to get every last scrap of meat I could pull apart. This place does a decent Highball, if you’ve not drank a Japanese highball you are missing out. All in all a super friendly space in the heart of Soho, we were there for maybe 4 hours, the staff were so welcoming and as we were in the throws of deep conversation, they came by and gave us each a small glass of house sake. A solid addition to Soho!
