Story Cellar

It was only a matter of time before Tom Sellers expanded the Story franchise into new and exciting places. With his eponymous Restaurant Story shut for refurbishment, Tom and his colleague Stephen Naylor from Restaurant Story have embarked on a french style brasserie. With my older brother in tow, we decided to give this place a go.

Counter seating, open kitchen (open fire!!), and a lengthy Bordeaux wine list, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more delightful spot to eat in Covent Garden. Story Cellar is best done with a small group so you can try more of their dishes. The main attraction is the rotisserie chicken, but I’ll be honest there are so many other stand out dishes that you’d be excused for trying other things. The hand dived scallop with XO sauce was amazing, so much so that we all took turns spooning the sauce and were kicking ourselves for not ordering bread to mop that deliciousness up earlier. The Dorset crab linguine is perfectly prepared, the only downside was the portion size as I could have eaten another plate with ease. The white pepper Hayseldon” mash is soft, gluey (in a good way!), and incredibly flavourful. Stephen told us that the potatoes that make this dish come from a farmer who only takes orders via phone or fax, no technology is allowed when making this masterpiece!

As I’ve written before, I tend to not focus too much on dessert but the bread and butter pudding with orange and tonka custard was so mind blowing that I’m determined to go back and eat it again. It’s such a standout dish, that for Ann this was the single best thing we tried that night. We were lucky enough to have a quick chat with Tom Sellers as we left and promised to return, the whole staff is friendly and (Humble brag), the staff remembered that I had dined at Restaurant Story before, so it felt like seeing some old friends for dinner.
