Bonga
I love Korean food, and you really are spoilt for choice in London. Soho has a number of great spots like Koba, Arang, Olle Korean BBQ, but if you live in North London your options are a bit more limited, that is until Bonga opened its doors in Kentish Town. Taking over the spot formerly held by Kami, Bonga is so old school they don’t even have a website! This should not deter you as the food is excellent. The variations of Korean fried chicken are delicious, but to me the stand out dishes are all the soups they serve, and in particular the Budae jjigae. This is a spicy stew made with ham, sausage, SPAM, baked beans, kimchi, instant noodles, and gochujang. This might not sound appealing in isolation, but I’m telling you it’s delicious! This is normally served with a small side of rice so it’s a great self contained lunch if you live/work in the area. The restaurant is tiny so best to make a reservation in the evening, or just rock up and hope for the best.
