The Sportsman

One of my favourite memories is this beach getaway with great friends in Whitstable. On our way to this mini paradise, we all stopped off at The Sportsman. This is one of those pubs, where the service is so warm, so exceptional, that it elevates the meal. The meal in itself was exceptional and to this day holds up as one of the best value for money Michelin star meals you can get in this country or any country for that matter. The dressed oysters were excellent, meaty as hell and fresh, I’d expect nothing less given we are by the coast. The roasted duck with orange was juicy, perfectly pink, with a lovely crispy skin. For dessert, I love my milk chocolate, this dark chocolate tart was excellent, light and just bitter enough not to make me want to dilute it with a glass of milk hah. I have fond memories of the staff keeping our friend’s very young daughter entertained while we all ate our meal, I mean it’s that kind of place. Half of us arrived at the restaurant early so we got the party started with some champagne and snacks. I look forward to visiting again, run don’t walk!
